I am asked so often about Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key). What is Reiki? What does it involve? Does it really work? How did you “learn” it?
I came across Reiki back in 2002, just talking to a lady about various aches and pains and some emotional issues that I was going through. This lady, Robina became my first Reiki Master and encouraged me to attend my Reiki 1 course, The first level in Reiki where I learnt the basic facts about Reiki, where it originated from, the benefits, how to give a Reiki treatment.
This day proved to be life changing and set me up to complete my Reiki 2 with Robina in October 2003 where I learnt more about how Reiki can benefit yourself as well as others and enabled me to then start to include it in my work.
In June 2009, after a years course I then became A Reiki Master/Teacher with the wonderful Linda and her son Phil Pollard becoming my Reiki Masters. I have learnt so much through the power of Reiki as well as making life long friends. I use Reiki every single day, for myself, for my Husband, the children, the animals, even the car! I use Reiki in the water that I drink and the food that we eat. Don’t think that I go about my life in a haze of Reiki! I don’t! I am a normal Human Being who still loses my temper and stresses about things but I am always aware that Reiki will send me what I need!
So! What is Reiki?
Rei = Universal
Kei = Life force energy.
Energy is everything, everything is energy and therefore alive and receptive to energy.
A Reiki Healer will bring the energy through to the recipient using a simple ritual, possibly “drawing” symbols. The Recipient may be sitting, standing lying and the Healer will place his or her hands either just above the body or will place their hands gently on the body. All Reiki treatments are done with the Recipient fully clothed. The Recipient may “see” colours, might feel heat from the healers hands or even a cold dense feeling on certain areas. There may be varying emotions as the energy comes through, peace, emotion, energy, fatigue, anything and everything can be felt during a treatment. After the treatment you will be advised to take it easy, drink plenty of water to flush out the system and to generally be kind to yourself!
Reiki teaches us how to accept and love ourselves. It helps us all live in harmony with fellow Human beings and nature. Reiki brings out the best in you, intensifies your feelings and capabilities. Reiki is open to all ages, from conception to death. No special abilities are required to learn, no prior knowledge or experience, just a simple desire to learn and accept.
We all use our hands to heal whether we realise it or not. Where we have pain we place our hands over that area. When our children are ill we automatically cuddle them, place our hands on their forehead to see if they have a temperature. Human touch conveys warmth, serenity and healing.
I use Reiki at the Hospice where I volunteer. The Patients find it deeply comforting and reassuring at times when they can be very ill and scared. Do not dismiss Reiki. I have seen the effects of Reiki in people who are going through horrendous and frightening times, not just in physical pain and illness but emotional and mentally challenging times.
UNDERSTANDING REIKI IN ITS TOTALITY IS AN ENDLESS PROCESS, ALTHOUGH IT IS SIMPLE AND PROFOUND, THOSE WHO DISMISS IT HAVE MISSED THE POINT….. THE WISE MAN OR THE FOOL?
If you are interested in either booking a treatment, please contact me. Or even come on the Introduction Reiki 1 Course. Set up a day and time to suit, either on your own or with a small group of like minded people and have a few hours of learning, talking and eating (always involves food!) You will receive a manual and a certificate at the end of the day.
