My two children have exams in the next few weeks. A’levels and GCSE’s. As parents we are well aware of how stressful this can be for the whole household – children, parents, siblings, even the pets! It is a really difficult time and as parents it can sometimes be quite difficult to know how we should be with our children to encourage them to work to the best of their ability but not push them so hard that they become ill or burn themselves out. My Husband and I try and take our cue from the children. I ask if I need to give them a kick up the bottom or leave them alone?! Should I be more supportive? Am I being too supportive? I think I might have made my son one cup of green tea during his revision so far! I have most certainly failed in keeping the fridge stocked up for their revision eating! Our Son is in the gym several times a week – good, our Daughter is training for her black belt in Karate so is training a lot – good. There is definitely more to life than sitting in their bedroom withering away over books (and you tube).
However, I am well aware through my work that their are many people really struggling with anxiety, nerves, peer pressure, parent pressure, self pressure etc. It is actually really stressful to see and hear about it. The primary School SAT’S are also coming up – remember those days well! The Summer term is really stressful and also stressful for the Teachers. Not only do they want their Students to do well but they have enormous pressure from Parents and the Schools to make sure those children do well. So all in all it is a really difficult time for everyone.
